The Fast Diet

The  Fast Diet by Dr Michael Mosley & Mimi Spencer

Is this just another diet book? Actually no its not, this is finally the book that can at long last find us as a nation getting healthier, and lighter. The title really says it all - "Lose Weight, Stay Healthy, Live Longer" and it does exactly what it says on the tin and there are many testimonials to back it up.

Why does this diet book make sense?  When the author Dr Michael Mosley whom is a medical journalist with the BBC first alerted us to this book, he did so only after presenting us with some amazing and scientific facts. As a 55yr old guy who was getting to the age when being overweight was causing other problems and could lead to an onset of diabetes he decided to see if all the scientific facts of dieting added up. Discovering that he did you can read how and why fasting in the way he describes really does work. The best bit about this is that for the rest of the week you can eat and drink normally and you will still lose weight. Is it too good to be true?..... Well according to one of the many testimonials I think not...

A busy mum with 3 children writes " This diet fits beautifully round my social life, as the fast days are so flexible. Its not that hard to resist temptation for one day because I know the next day I can have donut or a curry and a few glasses of wine if I want  and without feeling guilty. The proof is, literally, in the pudding, I have been eating like this but sticking to my 500 cals on a fast days I am still losing the weight"

Tzatziki

Greek Yogurt and Cucumber Sauce also known as Tzatziki

Having just come back from a holiday in Corfu, I fell in love with the Tzatziki. This of course varies slightly as some people prefer to use dill instead of mint, however I loved the freshness of this particular recipe Its easy to do, however to make it just right you do need to allow plenty of time for the  preparation.

Ingredients

Greek Yoghurt either normal or low fat
1x Lemon
1x cucumber
garlic clove x 2
fresh mint - few pieces
sea salt

Directions

Sieve the yoghurt for 2 hours. I used doubled up kitchen roll over a jug securing with an elastic band and poured the yoghurt in it to drain for 2hrs. This is important as this will remove any unwanted water from the yoghurt and ensure your tzatziki is the right consistency.

At the same time I also peeled and de-seeded the cucumber. Then I chopped into pieces added to a sieve and sprinkled sea salt on and also left to drain over a bowl for same amount of time.

Add  cucumber, galic, salt and pepper and sprigs of mint to a blender and mix well. Add the blended mixture to the strained yoghurt and stir well. Put in fridge and leave for another 2 hours so that all the flavour blends.

Serve with crusty bread or crackers for a really healthy snack any-time day or night.

Smaller Spoon Smaller Waist

Weight Loss Tips

In the book 59 seconds by Professor Richard Wiseman, he quotes an experiment by Brian Wansink who invited a group of friends to a party and secretly conducted the following experiment.  Each guest was randomly handed either a 17 or 34 ounce bowl and a 2 or 3 ounce spoon. The guest then helped themselves to ice cream. However, seconds before they took their first mouthful, researchers snatched away the bowls and weighed them. The results revealed that those given the large spoons and large bowls had on average, taken 14 per cent and 31 per cent more ice cream than their modestly equipped companions.

Celebrity Liz Hurley has  been said to only eat with her own cutlery when dining out as she inists that using a smaller knife and fork helps her to eat much less and thats how she keeps her figure. It has been shown that if chocolates are placed in a glass jar on display then you will eat more of them than if in a coloured jar. We really do eat with our eyes so this is not really surprising.

Eating Habits

It has been well documented that you will eat considerably more when you are watching tv than if you are just sat down with no distraction.

choose your glass carefully
Tips for Drinks - It has also been shown that when offered to pour their own spirit into a glass that people poured double the amount if the glass was a short wide glass as opposed to a tall thin glass. So if you want keep your head whilst all those around you are not then keep to tall slender glasses.

Five Secret Habits of Successful Weight Loss!
 by: Joseph S F Ng

‘In eating, a third of the stomach should be filled with food, a third with drink and the rest left empty.’

Talmudin

Hello! May I start this article by sharing with you my most inner secrets. I want to reveal to you that no matter how difficult your weight problem may seem, you can change your life for the better. If I can do it, so can you.

As many know I wasn't always so strong or sure of myself, and much of that insecurity has to do with my weight. I have had a weight problem practically all my life and I always will. But now things are different, and they can do for you, too.

Enough of this lengthy intro, at least for now! OK? Then let’s dive in with the first success habit of thin or slim people.

Success Habits No.1. Follow A Rugged framework for diet and exercise.

Let me set the record straight! Diet and exercise guidelines can provide you with a framework for making these healthy changes, but ultimately it's up to you to devise your own rules and come up with your own strategies for healthy living and dieting. It is not expected of you to grab any article or a report and immediately start following the tactics and strategies recommended. Everyone’s body is different from another.

We have DNA’s that are very different even from our blood brothers and sister. Why then should you follow exactly what people tell you. Even advices herein. The best bet is to use your own body to study the actions and reactions of the guidelines given and applied there. Fair enough?

Success Habits No. 2. Adhere to a ‘low-fat' low-calorie diet and exercising regularly

Let me clue you in on an undisputed statement. In the largest study of successful dieters to date researchers have found that sticking with a ‘low-fat' low-calorie diet and exercising regularly helped the participants shed and keep off at least 30 pounds. Sounds impossible? But trust me it’s true. You can bet your eyeball on this fact.

By the way, are you are you getting into this, or it is rubbing you the wrong way? Just be patient and carry on reading. It’s worth your few minutes of your precious time. Then shall we proceed to secrets number three. OK?

Success Habits No.3. Discover and Adapt to Better Dieting Therapies

Rest assured that successful dieters aren't afraid to do things far different from the norm. Just to find tactics that really works for them. And to use them when they work for them.

Time changes so does things. Remember the old adage, ‘Time and Tides awaits no man or for that matter woman’ Get my drift?

Up next,

Success Habits No. 4. A strong Belief in ‘Quitters Never Wins, and Winners never Quit’ motto.

Hello! Are you prepared to prepared to be shocked, disappointed and finally refreshed, reading this success secret no. 4. Right? Then let me get straight to the point! Make no mistake, along the road to change, lapses are inevitable for any one. But in and of themselves, they're not necessarily setbacks; it all depends on how you handle them.

Remember this weight loss thing is not a one shot affair. We have to live in our body every day of our lives, by the minutes, days, weeks, months and years. How our mind adapts to failures will largely determine the condition of our inherited body. Agreed?

Correct me if I am wrong. But what you are about to read may be shocking to you. If you are ready to see what’s next then go ahead and continue reading but brace yourself first!

Success Habits No. 5. Progressively overcoming unhealthy life styles

No matter how you argue or try to justify this habits number 5, common sense dedicates this obvious fact. Changing distasteful habits involves six predictable stages, researchers have found. If you can identify the stage where you are, you can take steps to spur yourself forward.

In case you don’t know the six stages, let’s have a fast reminder. Step One. Know the exact problem causing the unhealthy lifestyle. Step 2. Find alternative solutions to overcome the problem. Step 3. Select the best alternative to overcome the problem. Step 4. Schedule the start and finish times to work at this problem Step 5. Get down to solving the problem and step 6. Finish, follow up and revise if there is a need to. Simple enough?
